Southwater is served by a number of excellent secondary schools; but this necessitates bussing around 650 pupils out of the village each day. Currently, there are 875 pupils enrolled in Castlewood School, Southwater Infant Academy and Southwater Junior Academy. WSCC has identified the need for a new school due to the steady growth in population in Horsham and the surrounding area and Southwater is seen as a sensible place to locate it for the aforementioned reasons. This would give a local school for local children and the choice of being able to walk to school.
The proposed school will have an open admissions policy, be inclusive of children from all backgrounds and have a Christian ethos. The school will provide a community resource aiming to deliver a range of services. HCT believes the school can play a key role in continuing to develop a real sense of community within Southwater, building on existing work such as the joint youth work project between the churches and the Parish Council.
